Westwater Canyon
Westwater Canyon is upstream from Moab on the Colorado River. You can be a first time river runner with an adventurous spirit to join us on this trip, but due to its wilderness setting, and larger rapids, our age limit begins at 10 years old. One Day - Westwater Canyon
Class III & IV Rapids
What can we say about Westwater Canyon except "You gotta go!" This 17 mile stretch is by far Utah's most popular whitewater rafting and kayaking river section. After pushing off at the Westwater Ranger station, take in the amazing scenery as you float down river among the towering red rock canyon walls. The wildlife here is truly impressive with regular sightings of bald eagle, great blue heron and sometimes a river otter or two. There are some fun, splashy rapids in the upper sections but the river really starts to move as it slips into the polished, black, precambrian Schist rock formation of the inner gorge. Hang on as we drop over the edge of Funnel Falls, get knocked around by Surprise, slam into a wall of water at Sock-it-to-Me and have the cleanest run ever at the infamous Skull Rapid. There are 12 named rapids to thrill you and we're sure that this day will be the highlight of your vacation. We run this trip with oar rafts (usually recommended for first-time adventurers) and paddle rafts, which offer added excitement and participation for those who want an extra challenge. What to Bring for your Westwater One Day Trip:
- Water bottle - each boat carries ice water for refills
- Swimsuit or T-shirt and shorts, or long sleeve shirt for sun protection
- Outerwear jacket for wind protection
- Comfortable shoes that can get wet. It is best if they have straps or laces. Rental booties
available for rent.
- Hat or visor
- Sunglasses, with retainer strap
- Sunscreen and lip balm
- Camera (at your own risk, we highly recommend waterproof cameras for sale in our store)
- For spring and fall trips we recommend bringing a fleece jacket and hat as it can be chilly
after the rapids.
Each raft will have a waterproof bag for your day items
