Canyon Voyages History

Since opening in 1991, Canyon Voyages has quickly grown to cover more and more adventures throughout Moab, Utah. The focus on the customer has made Canyon Voyages Adventures personal and accommodating, making sure everyone has an amazing adventure.

Canyon Voyages owners, Brian Roe And Chris Martinez, are also founders of Grassroots Events, an ultra racing and trail running tour provider in Moab, Utah. Their continued commitment to the customer and passion for adventure has shaped the company into what it is today, embodying the philosophy that ‘you can’t get lost on an adventure.

Chris Martinez

Martinez is a veteran of the river running industry. He began his career as a guide in 1997 with Canyon Voyages as a first-year river guide running the Colorado River “daily” section. He later worked with Griffith River Expeditions, and also with Navtec running sports boats in Cataract Canyon. He later founded Grassroots Events and 360° Moab Adventures, a company that caters to long-distance trail running enthusiasts. Its two major race events—the Red Hot Race and the Amasa Run—attract thousands of people to Moab each year from all over the world.

“Canyon Voyages is focused on the quality of the customer experience. We pay close attention to detail, from our highly trained guides to outfitting our retail store, rentals, and trips with the latest equipment and gear.” – Chris Martinez

Brian Roe

Roe brings an extensive background in business management to the company. He founded B-Roe Management, LLC, which provides strategic planning services for all types of businesses including non-profit organizations. Previously, Roe lived in Austin, Texas, but his love of mountain biking made him a frequent visitor to Moab for many years. Roe graduated from Elmira College in New York where he earned a degree in public administration. He has also worked for the Austin police department, and is familiar with the recreation industry, having owned and operated his own bike shop in Texas.

“At Canyon Voyages we have high operational standards, we focus on quality customer service and a positive working environment for full-time & seasonal staff. Chris and I live, work and play in Moab and take our partnership with the community seriously. We actively demonstrate our commitment by providing our employees with a competitive living wage and support local community organizations through annual charitable giving.” – Brian Roe

Environmental Promise

At Canyon Voyages, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact. We are proud of the steps we have taken so far and are devoted to improving the world around us and leaving no trace to Moab’s natural environment.

Renewable Energy

As part of a partnership with the City of Moab and Rocky Mountain Power, Canyon Voyages purchases wind power through the Blue Sky Program. In 2008 we installed eight 4×6 photovoltaic panels to use Moab’s abundant sunshine to offset our power needs and carbon footprint.

Recycling Responsibility

Canyon Voyages recycles its paper, cardboard, glass and plastic. We encourage our customers to purchase refillable low-cost water bottles to reduce single-use, throw-away bottles and to help us practice the 3-R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle.
